The Most Common Replacement Parts for Small Engines

When working with small engines, you will often need to replace parts after long hours of use. Sometimes, you may need to replace the entire engine. No matter what part is damaged and needs to be replaced, Repower Pros has all you need. We have multiple replacement engine parts available in Pennsylvania to help your lawn mowers, generators, and more work again. Here are some of the most common replacement parts for small engines we’ve seen over the years.
Common Replacement Parts
Replacing engine parts will ensure the machinery runs efficiently and lasts longer. Below are common parts you’ll need to replace:
Fuel Pumps

Fuel pumps are typically mounted on the carburetor or by the fuel tank. If the fuel pump is not working, then the engine may not start. We’ve noticed the main reason fuel pumps fail is due to fuel contamination. Dirt, water, or rust can get into the fuel, causing it to decrease in quality. Fuel filters can also get clogged, which can cause impurities to get into the fuel. These impurities can lead to the fuel pumps getting damaged if you continue to use them. If the pump is damaged and impacting the working ability of the engine, replace it.
Carburetors
Carburetors provide adequate fuel flow for the engine, mixing fuel and air together for engine ignition. If these are not working properly, then the engine may fail to ignite. Excessive fuel consumption, leaking, engine not starting, and black smoke from the exhaust can mean you need to clean or replace your carburetor. Oftentimes, when you think you need to replace the whole engine, it is just the carburetors that are failing that need to be replaced. We have a carburetor assembly kit to help repair FD750D engines.
Air Filters
Air filters ensure there is clean air flowing into the engine for combustion. This is one of the most common replacements you’ll need, as they get dirty quickly. When there isn’t adequate airflow going through the engine, there can be difficulty starting, or the engine won’t run properly. Replacing your air filters will ensure there is clean air consistently in the engine, keeping dirt and debris out of other components. By continually replacing these, you will extend your engine’s life. We recommend replacing air filters after 25-50 hours of use, or at the beginning of each mowing season.
Gaskets

Gaskets are used for many parts of the engine. They are essential for sealing engine parts and preventing leaks of oil, coolants, and gases. Gaskets often get worn down over time, and they will need to be replaced. When the gasket is damaged or worn down, leaks can occur, which can damage other parts of the engine. As soon as you notice leaks, inspect your gaskets and replace the ones that are not working properly. We have gasket replacements available for many engine aspects, including carburetors, breathers, mufflers, exhaust pipes, and more, so your engine runs smoothly.
Spark Plugs
Spark plugs are vital for your engine’s performance. They allow for proper combustion, which helps your engine start. Signs you need to replace your spark plugs are the engine not starting, increased fuel consumption, misfiring, and reduced power. When replacing, make sure you have the right spark plug for the engine you own. Using the wrong one can cause the engine to not work correctly or use up too much fuel. Generally, we recommend that spark plugs be replaced after 25-100 operating hours, depending on the type. Our engine replacements come with spark plugs.
Full Engine Replacements
If multiple aspects of the engine are not working, then it might be best to replace the whole engine. Full engine replacements are mainly necessary if there is internal damage to the engine that is costly to fix. The engine could also be too old to repair, so it’s best to replace it. Replacing the engine instead of repairing it can be more cost-effective at times. If you notice that repairing the engine will require more costs than getting a new one, we recommend looking into a full engine replacement.
Engine Rebuild Kits

If you don’t want to replace the full engine, we offer engine rebuild kits to help you get your engine back to proper working condition. We have rebuild kits for FD620D and FD750D engines, but these kits can have parts added or adjusted to fit your needs. Our team can easily assist you with all your engine rebuilding needs. Just give us a call and we can get you started with any parts you need.
